FLORENCE ROSE (CRAIG) CALDWELL Funeral services for longtime Dolores resident, Florence Rose (Craig) Caldwell will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21 at the Dolores First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Summit Ridge Cemetery. Pastor Walther Olsen will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Florence passed away at the Valley Inn in Mancos, December 17, 2005 at the age of 92 with her family by her side. Florence was born July 8, 1913 in Belen, N.M. to John Wesley and Anita Margaret (Vielstich) Craig. She grew up in Belen where her folks owned a rooming house and a feed store. Florence drove the delivery truck starting at the age of 12 as her parents could neither drive. She attended Belen High School where she graduated in 1932. She worked in a bakery and then attended Western School for Private Secretaries. After completing her schooling, Florence worked at the Bartley Shop for 5 years in Albuquerque, N.M. Working in the city she was required to ride the bus, where she met her future husband, John Caldwell who was a driver for the Albuquerque Bus Company. They were married November 12, 1941 and lived in Belen for several years before moving to Dolores, Colo. in 1953. John and Florence resided in Dolores for 11 years and moved to Farmington, N.M. in 1964. John passed away in 1981. In 1998, Florence moved back to the Four Corners and resided here until her death. She was very devoted to her church and was a wonderful mother to her children. They always came first. Florence will be missed immensely. Florence is survived by four children, Doris Breedlove and husband, Randall of Amarillo, Texas, Joyce Scharnhorst and friend, Frank of Cortez, Linda Barker and husband, Jim and Buster Caldwell all of Grand Junction. She also leaves six grandchildren, L.T. Scharnhorst and wife, Kathy of Nashville, Tenn., Garth Scharnhorst and wife, Vickie of Cortez, John Scharnhorst and wife, Rhonda of Phoenix, Ariz., Carl Scharnhorst and wife, Gail of Kirtland, N.M., Wally Barker and wife, Mari of Thornton, Colo., and Tracy Barker of Denver, Colo.; ten great-grandchildren, Nolan, Corbin, Erin, Tiffany and husband, Joe, Lana and husband, Ray, Josh, Carrie, Lyle, Nathan, and Angelica; and one great-great-grandchild, Dyllon. Preceding Florence in death were her parents, John and Anna; two brothers, Cecil and Loyal; and her husband of 40 years, John.
