FLORENCE CUTHAIR BANCROFT SILAS Funeral services for lifelong Towaoc resident Florence Cuthair Bancroft Silas will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21 at the Towaoc Recreation Center. Davis Badback and Francis Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow at the Towaoc Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Florence was born on November 15, 1936 in Towaoc, the daughter of Juan and Corrine (Cuthair) Bancroft. She passed away on Monday, July 17, 2006 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 69. In 1952, Florence married Herbert Silas Sr. in Towaoc. A very talented woman, Florence could be found making beadwork gifts and silversmithing. Her grandchildren recall the delicious blueberry muffins she would make for them. Florence and her husband worked very hard in the sheep and cattle business. When she wasn’t working, Florence enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and crocheting. Church services and the music that went along with them brought her much peace and happiness. Surviving Florence are her husband, Herbert Silas Sr. of Towaoc; and her children, Marijayne Hight Kay, Mary Silas, and Herbert Silas Jr., all of Towaoc, Judy Faye Colson of Glendale, Ariz., Basil Silas Sr., Andrea Silas, Cynthia Silas, Edwina “Lefty” Silas, Lucas Silas, Alexander “Joe” Silas, and Valerie Silas, all of Towaoc. She also leaves behind her siblings, Pearl Root Laner and Freddie Bancroft, both of Towaoc; 47 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Herbie Silas Sr.; and her siblings, Juanita, Kenneth, Rose Marie, Virginia, Mary Ann, and Laurel.
