FLORELLA LYDIA OAKES Memorial services for longtime Dolores resident Florella Lydia Oakes will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 18 at the Dolores Community Center. Assistant Pastor Ben Erickson of Lighthouse Baptist Church will officiate. Florella was born December 13, 1928 in Cook County, Colo. the daughter of William Leonard and Florene (Rogers) Wagner. She passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the age of 85. On December 27, 1948 in Dolores, Florella married Frederick William Oakes and to this union two children, Lenetta and William, were born. Florella was a teacher in Cook County as well as a substitute teacher in the Dolores schools. She loved working with kids and was an active 4-H leader. Florella enjoyed the outdoors and was a lifelong farmer and rancher. She was an avid horseback rider as well. Florella loved her garden and was a past Garden Club member. Florella is survived by her children, Lenetta Shull and husband, Scott of Dolores, and William Oakes also of Dolores; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sister, Vanda Jones and husband, Wayne of Utah; and brother, Guy Wagner and wife, Claire of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Florene Wagner; husband, Frederick Oakes; brother, Will Wagner; and sister-in-law, Anita Wagner.
