FLORA 'MARIE' WHITELEY Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Flora 'Marie' Whiteley will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22 at the Cortez Cemetery. Brother Duvall will be officiating. Visitation has been set for Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Marie was born on June 21, 1937 in McPhee, Colo. the daughter of Jeff Roger and Flora Belle (Spear) Odom. She passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2004 at her home in Cortez at the age of 67. On June 3, 1956 in Socorro, N.M. Marie married James Edward Whiteley. With this union four children were born. In December of 1989 Flora's husband James passed away. In 1993 the she moved to Cortez. Marie was a dedicated homemaker who loved taking care of her children and family. Some of her favorite pastimes were putting together puzzles and playing games. Marie is survived by her children, Dean Whiteley of Dolores, Robert Whiteley of Farmington, N.M., Doug Whiteley of Carlyle, Ill., and Cheryl Turner of Cortez. She leaves 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; as well as her siblings, Bob Springfield of Port Angeles, Wash., LaVerne Calhoun and husband, Clarence of Arriola, and Arlene Hespe of Gillette, Wyo. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband James Whiteley; and her grandson, Donnie Turner. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Marie Whiteley with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
