Fern Cash Grimes

FERN CASH GRIMES Funeral services for former Mancos and Cortez resident Fern Cash Grimes will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Road M Chapel with Bishop Spencer Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Road M Chapel. Fern Cash Grimes was born one of eight children to Yale Buck and Ruby Pearl (Crum) Cash on April 15, 1921 in Safford, Ariz. She passed away on December 19, 2008 in Albuquerque, N.M. at the age of 87. Fern resided the last four years of her life in Albuquerque, N.M., but her real home was in Mancos. She loved that area and felt more at home there than anywhere. She was blessed to have lived on the same farm that she grew up on, "The Cash Farm" located at the top of Cash Canyon. She had many friends as everyone she met was touched by her and fell immediately in love with her. Fern spent her last few years in Colorado at Vista Mesa Assisted Living until her and Bill's health started to decline. The decision was made to move to Albuquerque to be closed to their daughter, Corky. She was an extremely strong woman and a loving one at that. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Fern is survived by two children, Laura Ann Grimes of Greeley, Colo. and Nelma Suzann "Corky" Dorsey of Albuquerque, N.M.; by ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Kacey, Kyle, Job, Andre, Amber, April, Cinnamon, and Angelo; and by many great grandkids with one on the way. Also surviving Fern are her siblings, Barbara Orendorf, Robert Cash and Gene Cash. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Grimes; her brothers, Vernon Cash, Roy Cash, and Glen Cash; and by one sister, Ruby Lister.
