He was the first born out of five children. Lonnie was born and raised in Cortez and graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School. Lonnie was no stranger to hard work. He started as a young man selling rocks with his younger brothers to tourists in Silverton, Colo. Lonnie had many occupations as a young man; some were working at the plywood plant and in the oil fields. His career began at the age of 18 when his Uncle Fred Marez introduced him into the construction field, took him under his wing, taught him the trade of Tireman with Nielson's Inc. Lonnie continued in the field of construction until his retirement in 2000. Working hard and playing hard is how Lonnie lived his life. Riding his Harley, welding, and being creative in is shop are a few things he liked. Lonnie enjoyed dancing, listening to someone play the guitar, and singing Johnnie Cash especially with his friends and family. What he loved in life was his family and friends. Family came first, however, if you were his friend, he would give the shirt off his back and his last dollar to a stranger in need. Also surviving Lonnie are his daughter, Patches Garcia-Flatos and husband, Andrew Flatos, and their children, Jade Garcia, Matthew Flatos, and Joshua Flatos; his son, Felix Garcia III and his children, Felicia Garcia, Leilani Garcia, Allen Burns, Mailena Serrano, and Anthony Serrano; his daughter, Levi Macedo and husband, Sergio Macedo, and their children, Lavella Macedo, Zina Garcia, Benjamin Garcia, and Mathew Macedo.
