FARRELL LEE McCOMB Graveside inurnment services for longtime Cortez resident Farrell Lee McComb will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 10 at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Montezuma County V.F.W. Post 5231. Born June 11, 1928 in Del Norte, Colo., Farrell was the son of James William and Ora Eva (Bray) McComb. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the age of 84. Farrell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves and the Colorado National Guard giving 17 years of military service. While enlisted he taught mechanics; a skill that he brought back into civilian life. Farrell taught mechanics at San Juan Basin Area Vo-tech School while farming and ranching at the same time. He married Joanne Marie Higman on February 16, 1951 in Cortez, sharing 61 years of marriage together. Farrell was a baseball fanatic which he used to benefit local youth as a baseball coach and volunteer with Little League. He enjoyed watching his son, Kevin, play as well as his grandson, Breen. Other areas Farrell volunteered in were high school rodeo and Future Farmers of America. He was a member of Elks, American Legion and Sons of the American Revolution. During his free time Farrell also enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Surviving Farrell are his beloved wife, Joanne McComb of Cortez; his son, Kevin McComb and wife, Bunny of Cortez; two grandchildren, Breen McComb of Cortez and Bailey McComb of Laramie, Wyo.; his brother, Darrell McComb and wife, Dee of North Hollywood, Calif.; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Farrell in death were his parents; and his three sisters, Naomi McComb, Leona Crown and Irene Fairchild.
