EVONNE RAE WOFFORD Funeral services for longtime area resident Evonne Rae Wofford will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 29 at Arriola Bible Church. Interment will follow at Lebanon Cemetery. Evonne was born January 11, 1940 in Denver, Colo. the daughter of Ruth (Petry) Riffe and Joseph Petry. Evonne lost her courageous battle with cancer at her home in Arriola, surrounded by family and her loving husband and caregiver on April 25, 2010. Evonne graduated from Golden High School in 1958 and then pursued a career as Licensed Practical Nurse. She met and married the love of her life for forty-nine years, Joseph Paul Wofford on June 30, 1961. While living in the Denver area, Joe and Evonne had three children, Joseph Dudley, Michael Scott and Amanda Sue. In 1972 the family moved to their farm in Arriola. Evonne was a stay at home mom for several years and then began driving school bus for Montezuma-Cortez School District. Once her children were older, she then began working at City Market and retired after 18 years. Her next role was providing “Grandma daycare” until her grandchildren became older. Then it was on to spending time with Gramps as his “irrigation engineering assistant”. Together they truly enjoyed a simple life and just spending time with one another on the farm. Evonne enjoyed flower gardening and taking care of wild birds, especially humming birds. She always showed her love by providing her family with the very best home cooked meals and sweets. Her notes and cards for no reason or un-birthday cards will always be treasured memories by her family. Surviving Evonne are her husband Joe Wofford; and her children Joseph (Mercy) Wofford of San Jose, Calif., Michael (Emily) Wofford of Culver, Ore., and Mandy (James) Woosley of Aztec, N.M. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Sarah and Anthony Wofford, Kolton and Kymber Wofford, Kyni (Cody) Decker, and Tawnee, Tabor and Tegan Woosley; her two step-sisters, Jacque Webb and Linda Berry of Dolores; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Evonne was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Riffe; her step-father, Dudley Riffe; her father, Joseph Petry; and her brother, William Petry. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Evonne Wofford with the Dolores State Bank.
