EVELYN MARIE ROYCE Graveside services for lifelong Dolores resident Evelyn Marie Royce will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 18 at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Evelyn was born March 9, 1932 in Dove Creek the daughter of Walter A. "Allen" and Eva Marie (Knous) Moore. She passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 76. Evelyn grew up in Dove Creek and Cortez and went on to graduate from Cortez High School in 1949. Evelyn married Clyde Donald Royce Jr. in Aztec, N.M. in 1958. Evelyn worked at various businesses in the area. She was employed by the Montezuma County Courthouse, the Hollywood Bar, she worked on a ranch for some time, and she had a coin machine business. Evelyn was very proud of her Irish heritage, in her younger days she had beautiful, long red hair. She was well known for wearing Indian jewelry, especially dangling earrings. Evelyn loved horses, gaited horses in particular. Evelyn liked wearing White Shoulders perfume and she was great with plants, especially Christmas cactus. She played the piano and enjoyed playing country/western and honky-tonk music. Surviving Evelyn are her sisters-in-law, Edythelma Sattley and Clydella Likes; in addition, numerous nieces and nephews; and several long-time friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Royce; and her companion later in life, Raymond Roelker. Memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn's name to Dolores Fire and Rescue.
