Eva Pauline Horne
Eva Pauline Horne, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on Wednesday November 22, 2023. She was the wife of Gary Horne, they just celebrated 50 years together.
Eva was born in Cortez, Colorado on December 28, 1944. She was the daughter of Willie and Filomena Gallegos. She attended and graduated from Cortez High School. From there she went on and pursued her nursing career in Colorado Springs where she received her Registered Nurse degree. Nursing was her passion.
She worked at Southwest Memorial Hospital on the Med-Surg unit, where she was awarded Outstanding Nurse of the Year in 1994. She then transferred to the Home Health department for Southwest Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2013.
To know Eva was to know love, compassion, kindness, with that beautiful smile upon her face that she constantly wore. Eva was the true definition of bubbly!
She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she loved everyone and never knew a stranger. Eva loved fiercely and unconditionally, and, the world is a little dimmer without her bright light in it. She will be greatly missed and remembered forever.
Eva is survived by her husband Gary Horne of Mancos, CO; her children; Chris Horne of Mancos, CO, Matthew (Jayde) Horne of Texas, and Diana Smith of Cortez, CO; by her beloved grandchildren; Kellan, Braeden, Declan, Presley, Robert (Bubba) Smith, Mikey Smith, and Graceyn and Kennedy. She is also survived by her special nieces and their families; Beth Benavidez of Dolores, CO, Leeann Seymour of Dolores, CO; her sisters, Martha Maez of Dolores, CO, Margaret (Tommy) Cordova of San Francisco, CA, Mary Alice Gonzales of Mancos CO, Lynda (Pete) Valencia of Farmington, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Eva was preceded in death by both of her parents; sisters, Leova Brinkerhoff, Marvene Lobato; and brothers, Tavy Gallegos, Don Gallegos and Bill Gallegos.
On behalf of the family, we would like to extend our gratitude to the nurses and staff at Southwest Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care and respect they gave to Eva; and Dr. Mojzis for all the kindness, compassion and comfort he showed for Eva and the family during this difficult time.
A special thank you to our Super Nurse, Tina Jackson to whom we are forever grateful.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
