EVA GAWDUN Funeral Mass for longtime Cortez resident Eva Gawdun will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 4 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Reverend Pat Valdez, C.R. will officiate. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Viewing has been scheduled for Sunday, March 3 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Following will be a Rosary starting at 3 p.m. Eva was born May 30, 1923 in Rakhiv, Ukraine the daughter of Olexi and Paraa (Klymowic) Krywecki. She passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Eva married Josef Gawdun on March 16, 1949 in Koblenz, Germany. They moved to Cortez in 1950 and were blessed with six children. Eva was a mother first but she also was an avid gardener, loved to crochet, knit and work in her yard. She was involved in the Southwest Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Her church, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, was very important to her and she was actively involved. She worked in the hospitality industry, nursing home and volunteered at the hospital. Surviving Eva are her children, Michael Gawdun of San Antonio, Tex., Ed Gawdun of Mancos, Andre Gawdun of Mesa, Ariz., Frank Gawdun and wife, Beth of Tempe, Ariz., and Thomas Gawdun and wife, Shana of Pagosa Springs; seven grandchildren, Richie Anne Gawdun of Grand Junction, Andrew, David and Alycia Gawdun of Reno, Nev., Crystal Young of Pagosa Springs, and Heather and Rachel Gawdun of Tempe, Ariz.; and four great grandchildren, Soren, Jonas, and Merek of Grand Junction, and Monique of Pagosa Springs. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister; and four nephews and three nieces of Ontario, Canada. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Olexi and Parana Krywecki; husband, Josef Gawdun; and son, Stefon Gawdun. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
