ESTHER WALLACE SHOCKLEY Interment services for Cortez resident Esther Wallace Shockley will take place at 12 noon on Manday, January 12 at Crown Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, Colo. Esther passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at her residence at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 90. Esther Hafermehl was born October 9, 1918 in Lindsborg, Kan. where she grew up and graduated from high school. She then attended Colorado Women's College in Denver. Esther married Willard L. Wallace of Denver in 1939, where they lived until his death in 1969. She began work for Jefferson County as a court reporter in 1960. She retired as Colorado's last shorthand court reporter in 1980. She then moved to Georgetown, Colo. where she lived for several years. She also spent time in Missouri and Alaska while married to Orion Shockley. She lived the last year of her life in Cortez to be near her daughter, Carole Seibel. Surviving Esther are her daughter, Carole Seibel and husband, Dennis of Cortez; her grandchildren, Chrissy Vernon Reimer of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mark Vernon of Austin, Tex.; her great-grandchildren, Blake and Audrey Reimer of Fort Collins, and Tyler Vernon of Austin, Tex.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
