ESTHER ONETA LINNENS Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Esther Oneta Linnens will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Burns Cemetery in Egnar, Colo. Oneta was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1914, in Bald Hill, Okla. the daughter of William and Lula Peters. She passed away at the age of 100 years on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the home of her daughter in the Houston, Tex. area, surrounded by her loving family. The Peters family moved from Oklahoma to homestead in Colorado when she was a young girl. She was married to James Leon Linnens in Monticello, Utah, on December 7, 1933. Oneta and James also homesteaded their own property when raising their family. There were eight children born to this union: James, Martha Ann, Harlean, Hollis, Sonia, Cindy, Roy, and Ula. Oneta was predeceased by her parents, husband, children, Martha Ann and Roy; three grandchildren, as well as her sister, Eileen Gibbs. Oneta is survived by six children, 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Oneta's greatest passion in her life was serving her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a loyal and active member of the Cortez Church of Christ for 60 years. Her example of a life lived by faith was apparent to all that knew her. She trusted God for everything. Oneta thoroughly enjoyed working with her hands in a variety of ways -- sewing, quilting, crocheting, tatting, gardening, and ceramics. She called Bingo at the Cortez nursing home, Madison House, for years. Oneta served many times on the election board, to assist others with the privilege of voting. Memorial contributions may be made in Oneta Linnen's name to Four Corners Youth Encampment, c/o Church of Christ, 631 E. Montezuma Ave., Cortez, Colo. 81321.
