ERNEST JUNIOR LASSLEY Graveside inurnment services for Cortez resident Ernest Junior Lassley will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 25 at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Pastor Mark Baker of the Baptist Chapel will officiate. Ernie was born on December 4, 1924 in Robinson, Kans. the son of Ernest Leroy and Lillie (Thompson) Lassley. He passed away at Madison House on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the age of 86. Ernie married Betty Pauline Kiefer on August 17, 1951 in Horton, Kans. Together they shared 60 years of marriage. Prior to moving to Cortez, Ernie was an involved member of his community; he was a member of a volunteer fire and rescue department and was known for his acts of kindness fixing the neighborhood kid's bicycles. Ernie enjoyed life and staying busy. He was a member of the Good Sams Club, enjoyed hunting and riding four wheelers in the forest and loved listening to country western music and watching cowboy movies. Surviving Ernie are his beloved wife, Betty Lassley of Cortez; one daughter, June Ann Bagsby and husband, Steve of Phoenix, Ariz., two sons, Michael Leroy Lassley and wife, Ruth of Bailey, Colo. and Steven Earl Lassley and wife, Lori of Conifer, Colo.; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and by two sisters, Shirley Hawk and husband, Leonard of Effingham, Kans. and Lola Parkerson of Topeka, Kans. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Richard Lassley.
