ERNEST GLEN FISHER Ernest Glen Fisher was born October 18, 1919 in Kirksville, Mo. and raised the son of Glen Pearl and Edna R. (Parkin) Gregory. He passed away at his home in Cortez on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the age of 88. Ernie, as he was fondly known by friends and family, was raised in Appleton City, Mo. and graduated from high school at Windsor High School in Windsor, Mo. He furthered his education at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill. Ernie was employed by Sears in the position of West Coast Specialty Repair, working for the company 39 years. From 1939 to 1945 he worked in Chicago, then to Los Angeles from 1945 to 1978, and finally in San Diego County from 1978 to 1992. Upon his retirement he and his wife, “Tilly”, moved to the Cortez area enjoying 57 years of marriage before her death in 2000. On August 15, 2001 Ernie married Shirley Marie Alley in Cortez sharing six years together. During World War II Ernie proudly served his country in the Army Signal Corps. In his free time Ernie enjoyed exploring the desert, traveling and rockhounding. In his younger years he also liked riding dune buggies. Ernie was kind to everyone and will be deeply missed. Surviving Ernie are his wife, Shirley Fisher of Cortez; his daughter, Linda Marie Spreine and husband, Jim of Sequim, Wash.; son, Gary Fisher and wife, Jackie of Cortez; step-daughter, Dana Marie VanderVeer of Mancos; and two grandchildren, David Fisher and wife, Amber of Dacona, Colo. and Jimmy Fisher of Cortez.
