ERNEST EUGENE “HOOT” COX Graveside services for Ernest Eugene “Hoot” Cox will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 13 at the Arriola cemetery. Reverend Lynn Evans will be officiating. Ernest was born to the pioneer settlers Ernest Lark and Dulcie Belle (Hudson) Cox on July 1, 1931 on the family homestead in Mancos. He passed away on Friday, May 10, 2005 at his home in Port Matilda, Pa. as the result of a tractor accident. Hoot was 73 years old. The youngest of six children, he graduated from Mancos High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He fulfilled a lifelong dream of a big rig truck driver where he spent 30 years driving in Southwest Colorado and farming on the weekends. On February 19, 1960 Ernest married Harriet Lucille Norris. The couple raised two children, Diana and Steven. They later adopted and raised their granddaughter, Stephanie Cox. “Hoot” was a member of Highlands Masonic Lodge #96 and a 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite Lodge in Denver, and a member of the Port Matilda Grange. He was also an active member of the Martha United Methodist Church. Surviving Ernest are his wife, Harriet Cox; his children, Diana Cox-Foster and husband, Michael of Port Matilda, Pa., Steven Cox of Denver, Colo., and Stephanie Cox of Greeley, Colo.; his granddaughter, Alexandria Foster; and his sister, Inelda Austin of Governor, N.Y. Preceding him in death were his parents.
