ERMA MAE McCOMB Graveside services for lifelong Cortez resident, Erma Mae McComb will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 1 at Cortez Cemetery with Reverend Erika Meyer officiating. Erma was born on May 29, 1923 in rural Cortez to Frank of Lola (Hawk) Koehn. She passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Madison House at the age of 85. Erma graduated from Cortez Union High School in 1941. She married Donald McComb in Aztec, N.M. on May 31, 1941. The couple lived in Seattle, Wash. and later in San Diego, Calif. while her husband was in the Navy. After the service they returned to the Cortez area making their home here. In 1967 they moved to Montrose to build and operate the Red Barn Restaurant with Fritz Hanna. While in Montrose, Erma worked at Colorado-Ute Electric. After the sale of the business they returned to Cortez. Erma worked for Byron Pyle at the Towaoc Trading Post for several years before retiring. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting and ceramics. The family has many beautiful afghans, sweaters, pictures and ceramics to treasure. Surviving Erma are her sons, Jerry McComb and wife, Norma of Cortez, and Richard McComb and wife, Sherry of Montrose, Colo.; two grandchildren, Trent McComb and wife, Wendi of Grand Junction, Colo. and Tonia McComb of Denver. Also surviving are two great grandchildren, Finn and Macy McComb; sisters, Edith Denton and Helen Kuenzler both of Cortez, and Frankie Bowers of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and by several nieces and nephews. Preceding Erma in death were her parents; her husband, Don McComb in 2002; and her grandson, Scott McComb in 1982. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Erma McComb with Madison House, Hospice of Montezuma, or the Scott McComb Memorial Scholarship Fund at 827 W. 7th Street, Cortez, Colo. 81321.
