EMMA LOU RILEY Funeral services for lifelong area resident Emma Lou Riley will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 10 at the Cortez Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Battle Rock Cemetery. Emma was born on April 2, 1922 in McElmo, Colo. the daughter of Wade H. and Clara Pauline (Edmonson) Foster. She passed away after a gradual decline in health on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Southwest Memorial Hospital. Emma was 87 years old. On May 2, 1941, Emma married James W. Riley in Aztec, N.M. A devoted member of the Church of Christ, Emma was very involved in the Cortez and McElmo communities. She loved spending time in her garden, reading, canning for her family and doing needlework. Emma was well known for her peanut brittle; for many years she made all the peanut brittle for the Battle Rock Christmas parties. Surviving Emma are her children, Cammy DeVore and husband, Dick of Cortez, James Riley and wife, Terry of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Pat Riley and wife, Robbie of Dolores; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Kitty Halls of Cortez. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, James W. Riley; by her infant daughter, Barbara Riley; and by her siblings, George Foster, Darrell Foster, Jessie Riley, Gladys Major, Buster Foster, Eddie Foster, and Roger Foster.
