ELVA LEE PHILLIPS Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Elva Lee Phillips will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 9 at the Sheldon Cemetery in Duncan, Ariz. A visitation was held Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Elva was born on August 31, 1924 in Lakeside, Ariz. the daughter of Sidney Benjamin “Nick” and Florence (Cade) Bennett. She passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at her home in Cortez after a long battle with cancer at the age of 80. In 1941 Elva married George “Bud” Hall, Jr. to this union four children were born; Boyd, Guy, Beverley and Kathy. In 1955 they were divorced. Elva raised her children in Duncan, Ariz. with the help of her family. In 1964 she married Floyd Wayne Phillips. The family moved to Wyoming where Wayne worked in the oil fields. On their days off they enjoyed boating and fishing in whatever area they were in. Wayne passed away in 1987 after a long illness. Elva then moved to Cortez. She had spent the last 18 years splitting her time between visiting her family in Duncan, Ariz. and her daughter and friends in Wyoming. Surviving Elva are her children, Boyd A. Hall and wife, Alice of Cortez, Beverley Battenfield and husband, Floyd of Showlow, Ariz., and Kathy Foster of Cheyenne, Ariz.; her daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Hall of Tucson, Ariz.; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; four sisters and their family’s in Arizona; and many friends in Arizona, Wyoming and Cortez. Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Wayne. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Montezuma and one and all.
