ELEANOR UNFUG LYONS Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Eleanor Unfug Lyons will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28 at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. Pastor Steve Nofel will officiate. Eleanor was born on March 19, 1931 in Brush, Colo. the daughter of Charles Otto and Edwina (Vories) Unfug. She passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009 at her residence at the age of 78. On June 5, 1952, Eleanor married Daniel Joseph Lyons. Eleanor attended the University of Colorado and Colorado State University and she obtained a degree in Nutrition and Home Economics. A lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church, Eleanor belonged to Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church for 33 years. Eleanor devoted her time to various charitable organizations throughout her life. She enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, camping archeology, and reading. Surviving Eleanor are her children, Susan Alicia Lyons of Birmingham, Alabama, Richard P. Lyons of Greeley, Colo., Mike W. Lyons of Cortez, Betsy A. Lyons of Greeley, Colo., John L. Lyons of Monte Vista, Colo., Samuel A. Lyons of Cortez, William A. Lyons of Cortez, and Amy Klyse and husband, Bryan of Bailey, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Daniel Lyons in 2008; by her son, Daniel Joseph Lyons Jr.; and by her brother, Harry Vories Unfug. Memorial contributions may be made in Eleanor's memory to Good Samaritan Center c/o Cindy, or to the Bridge Emergency Shelter; or the Salvation Army.
