ELANOR MERCEDES TOZER Funeral services for lifelong area resident, Elanor Mercedes Tozer will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Elanor was born the daughter of Frank Herman and Maple Alzina (McLaughlin) Roelker in Dolores on December 14, 1925. She passed away at the Vista Grande Inn on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the age of 81. In 1946 Elanor married Pearly Alvin Tozer in Tierra Amarilla, N.M. She moved to McElmo Canyon with Pearly where they raised their two children and he farmed. Elanor worked in the banking industry and then in the Montezuma County Treasurer’s Office for a number of years. More recently she has given her time to the Cortez Cultural Center as a volunteer. Elanor enjoyed time spent in her yard and garden. Surviving Elanor are her daughter, Carol Tibbits and husband, Gary of Cortez; her son, Merle Tozer and wife, Deb of Orange, Texas; and three grandchildren, Whitney and Kienan Tibbits and MKenzie Jones. Her nephews, Don Tozer and wife, Liz and Rex Tozer all of Cortez; her dear friend, Linda Davies and husband, Kenneth of Cortez; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Elanor. Elanor was preceded in death by her husband, Pearly in 1968; her brother, Raymond Roelker; and just recently by her sister, Dolores Tozer. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Elanor Tozer with the Cortez Cultural Center, 25 N. Market Street, Cortez.
