EDITH DELIGHT GRAY JAMES Funeral services for lifelong area resident Edith Delight Gray James will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Sylvan Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m at Ertel Chapel. On May 3, 1925 a baby girl was born to Elmer and Fay Gray. They thought she was special so they named her Edith Delight. She was raised on the Gray Homestead eight miles west of Pleasant View. The Grays homesteaded in 1916 after traveling over Loveland Pass from Oklahoma in a covered wagon. Edie would rather ride her horse, "Goldy", than anything else. She could out ride any boy around. Edie went to Sylvan school through 10th grade. She left the homestead to go to school in Grand Junction, Colo. It was there Edie saw an ad about working in an Aircraft Factory in Hill Field. She installed electrical wiring in engines of bombers. After the war, Edie went to back to the homestead and met Joe Winters. Together they had Karen Winters Shaver and Darrell Winters. The marriage ended in a divorce. In 1967, she met and married Henry James. They were married for 47 years until her passing. Edie loved to travel. Her biggest pleasure was taking her grandson to different places like Carlsbad Caverns, Grand Canyon, Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Mesa Verde. Edie liked to see historical places and old forts. When the war broke out, her brothers went into the service, leaving her to drive the tractor to plant and harvest the beans and whatever they planted. Edie's first real job was driving the neighbor's cows home making big money at five cents a week. Surviving Edie are her husband, Henry James of Dove Creek; daughter, Karen Shaver and husband, Dannie of Brighton, Colo.; son, Darrell Winters of Denver, Colo.; step daughter, Thelma James Posey and husband, Robb of Tennessee; grandsons, Jarrod Shaver and wife, Desiree of Brighton, Colo., Brandon Shaver and wife, Niquie of Thorton, Colo. and Lance Winters and Andrea of Brighton, Colo.; great grandchildren, Kari Winters, Lance Winters Jr., Xavier Shaver, Quintin Shaver, Elena Shaver, Trevor Shaver, Hayden Shaver, Caleb Winters, and Kala Winters; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer S. Gray; mother, Velma Fay (Vinson) Gray; siblings, Rosa Gray Easter, Forrest Gray, Woodrow Gray, Frankie Gray, Ella Gray Brogan, Velma Gray Henderson, Harold Gray, Artherine Gray Elsworth, Samuel Gray, and John Gray; three unnamed sisters; and grandson, Casey Isaacs. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, Colo. 80027.
