Edgar Clint Mcnutt

September 29, 1942 — December 1, 2009

EDGAR CLINT MCNUTT Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Edgar Clint McNutt will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2 at the Church of Christ. Ed was taken home to be with God on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Ed lived most of his life in Colorado. He was born in Cortez on September 29, 1942 to Bonnie Thelma (O'Roark) McNutt and Gordon McNutt. After graduating from MCHS in 1960, Ed married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Thomas, before moving to Denver in 1966. He spent 17 years working for Burlington Northern Railroad as a train engineer. In 1984, Ed and family returned to Cortez where he became somewhat of a local celebrity, playing the drums in the country western band the Memory Makers. Ed was a regular at the Apple Shed on Friday nights doing what he loved most, making music with friends. One of Ed's greatest accomplishments was writing and recording the song, "The Doors are Closing." As a musician/songwriter, Ed was a member of BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated) as well as having the song registered with the United States Library of Congress. Ed's song has been frequently requested on the KSJD Saturday Morning music show. Ed is known to friends and family as a master craftsman for not only his incredible talent as a musician, but as a carpenter and mechanic. He was always willing to help others work on building projects and intricate wood-working tasks. Everything Ed built is considered by most to be a work of art. He could figure out and put to paper plans for everything from buildings to Christmas ornaments and has graced Montezuma County with several "Tin Men." He also designed and built Gus the Bus for the students of Montezuma County schools. Surviving Ed are his loving wife, Gayle; his children, Lloyd McNutt and wife, Crystal of Cobb Mountain, Calif., and Maureena Ruff of Lubbock, Tex; seven grandchildren whom he adored, Zachary McNutt, Alicia Williams, Jacob McNutt, Keith Williams, Kyerstin McNutt, Alexa and Shannon Ruff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Gordon McNutt; by his brother, Floyd McNutt; by his sister-in-law, Billie McNutt; by his grandson, Lucas McNutt; and by his son-in-law, Rich Ruff. Memorial contributions may be made in Edgar McNutt's name to Vectra Bank.
