EDDIE RAY BECHER The sunlight dimmed the morning of January 30, 2017, when Eddie Ray Becher chose to leave us at age 69. Eddie Ray was born November 25, 1947 to Elvin (Bud) Becher and Ramona Becher. Because he was born with Down Syndrome he faced many challenges throughout his life. Just a little slower he met those challenges and as he became big brother to two siblings he tried to keep up with them. When they reached school age Eddie longed to go to school and finally was able to attend special education classes. Happy to be with his peers, he made the most of his daily experiences. Eddie was a friend to all. He never met a stranger and became friends with so many people throughout his life. He spent many hours at his Dad's shop, Bud's Auto Repair, where all the customers came to know and love him. He spent many joyful times with his Grandma and Grandpa Plumlee. His large family came to know him as a happy part of their lives. Eddie Ray had many favorite things to do to keep him busy. He loved to play his guitar and sing his songs. Coloring pictures was his "hobby," giving freely to his friends and family his pictures appropriate of all the holidays, birthdays and other occasions. Birthdays were his favorite times, whether his or family members. Eddie Ray became a pretty good bowler and proudly showed off his trophies. His skills at playing pool prompted him to challenge friends and family to join him in a game or two. He learned to play video poker and looked forward to going to the casino. Fishing, hunting and camping were a joy to him. His life was filled with laughter, love and enjoyment as he touched the lives of so many. He will be remembered, loved and missed by all who knew him. Eddie Ray was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Ramona Becher of Dolores; two brothers, David (Correen) of Dolores and Steve (Peggy) of Cortez. Also surviving are his beloved nephews, Mike Becher of Hawaii, Brandin Becher of Evans, CO, Justin Becher of Durango, Kelly Becher of Covington, WA, and Dane Becher of Broomfield, CO, their wives and children; and by aunts and uncles, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his long time caregivers, Rick and Cyndi Presnell who he loved dearly for over three years and by Laurie McGuire who cared for him for over two years. Graveside services will be held March 18 at Summit Ridge Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with inurnment to follow. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Dolores Fire Department.
