Visitation has been set for Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Dudley, or “Dud” as his family lovingly refers to him was born December 15, 1918 at Agate, Colo., the son of Peter B. and Salora M. (Baker) Riffe. He passed away at the Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, January 13, 2006 at the age of 87. During World War II Dudley served his country in the Army Air Corps. After his discharge he married Ruth Ellen Blandford on June 30, 1949 in Central City, Colo. Dudley and Ruth Ellen shared 56 years together. The couple moved to the Cortez area in January 1962 with Dudley opening and operating the Palace Barber Shop. This became a gathering place for a good game of Cribbage or Penny Ante Poker as well as a good place to catch up on all the local news. Dudley was to spend 24 years at the Palace Barber Shop. When free from the barber shop, Dudley loved to spend his time fishing and hunting. He also looked forward to cattle drive time, helping Gale Greenlee move his cows. Dudley loved time spent on a horse and had belonged at one time to the Saddle Dusters. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. Dudley will be sorely missed by those that knew him and loved him. Surviving Dudley are his wife, Ruth Ellen Riffe of Dolores; his three daughters, Evonne Wofford and husband, Joe of Dolores, Linda Barry of Dolores, and Jacque Webb of Aurora, Colo.; and his daughter-in-law, Bernita Petry of Golden, Colo. Twelve grandchildren, Kathy Wyatt, Debbie Hiett, Bill Petry, Mark Petry, Joe Wofford, Mike Wofford, Mandy Woosley, David Morris, Dale Morris, Justin Webb, Jared Webb, and Jeremy Webb; and 16 great grandchildren also survive Dudley. His son, Bill Petry; two brothers, Walter and Raymond Riffe; a sister, Nina Newton; and his parents, Peter and Salora Riffe preceded him in death. Memorial contributions can be made in Dudley's name at Dolores State Bank.
