DOUGLAS O’CONNOR PERSONEUS Memorial services for Cortez resident Douglas O’Connor Personeus will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 30 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Reverend Bud Rousset will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post 75. The son of Lester and Hattie (Barringer) Personeus, Doug was born on May, 1, 1924 in Grand Gorge, N.Y. He passed away on Monday, June 26, 2006 at his home at the age of 82. In October 1966, Doug married Jean Yates in Durango, Colo. Doug was a mountain man at heart that loved the outdoors. He took a great deal of pride in shoeing horses and was a proud, well respected farrier. In his free time Doug enjoyed shooting guns at the rifle range. He was known to be an exceptional marksman. Surviving Doug are his wife, Jean Personeus of Cortez; and his children, Brant Personeus of Grand Junction, Nancy Personeus Bukowski of Layton, Utah, LeDonna Personeus of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bryant Personeus of Glendale, Ariz. He also leaves behind his sisters, Harriet McGowan and Constance Bird, both of St. Augustine, Fla., and Pricilla Pierce of Syracuse, N.Y.; as well as 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Doug was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Montezuma in Doug’s name.
