DOROTHY LEE WINBURN Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Dorothy Lee Winburn will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24 at the Cortez Church of Christ. Dorothy was born December 8, 1934 in Wynnewood, Okla. the daughter of James Lewis and Jewel Evelyn (Southerland) Ray. She passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at her home. Dorothy was 79. On July 10, 1954 in Yuma, Ariz. Dorothy married Walter Edward Winburn. They shared over 52 years of marriage before his death in 2007. Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved to read, knit, and do crossword puzzles. Dorothy loved to have visitors and loved spending time with her family. Surviving Dorothy are her children, Neil Winburn of Cortez, and Lea Tom and husband, Wes of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughter, Ashley Witcher of Hampton, Va.; sisters, June Leger of Curtis, Wash., Carolyn Burrows of Piney Flats, Tenn., and Heather Wagner of Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband, Walter Winburn; father, James Ray; mother, Jewel Hovatter; and the man Dorothy called father, who raised her after James was killed in the war, Dallas Hovatter. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Dorothy Winburn with Hospice of Montezuma, PO Box 740, Cortez.
