Dorothy Genevieve Velho

DOROTHY GENEVIEVE VELHO Dorothy Genevieve Velho was born on April 10, 1925 in Long Beach, Calif., the daughter of Frederick Elmer and Laura Ruth (Doan) Jennings. She passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 81. On October 15, 1983, Dorothy married John Velho. Dorothy was involved in most church organizations. She taught pre-school in Chinle, Ariz. Dorothy was a homemaker that raised six children. Once her children were grown and out of the house she obtained her nursing degree. She spent one year in Haiti as a Missionary Nurse. She then went on to spend two years in Monument Valley, Utah treating the ill. Dorothy also worked for a Seventh Day Adventist Nursing Home in Massachusetts. Surviving Dorothy are her children, Kitty Kraus and husband, Phil of Cortez, Tom Smith and wife, Micki of Chinle, Ariz., Tim Smith and wife, Lauri of North Las Vegas, Nev., Dorothy Edgar of Lancaster, Calif., and David Smith and wife, Lisa, also of Lancaster, Calif.; her step-children, Tim Velho of Newbedford, Mass., and Cindy Audet of Orange, Mass.; her siblings, Pat Ecomomu and husband, Don of Palm Dale, Calif., Peg Perea and husband, Ray of Beaver, Utah, Betty Raymer of Val Paraiso, Flor., and Ellen Baum of Redlands, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles W. Smith on October 3, 1972; her second husband, John Velho on February 26, 2005; her son William F. Smith; her grandson, William Smith Jr.; and her brothers, Jimmy, Pete, and Jerry Jennings. Interment services will take place at a late date at Joshua Memorial Park Cemetery in Lancaster, Calif.
