Donald Richard McKinney

Graveside service for Cortez resident Donald Richard McKinney “Rick” will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango CO.

Rick was born July 5, 1962, in Durango, CO. the son of Carl Francis McKinney and Velma Iona McKinney (Sharp). With all his family by his side he joined our loved ones in Heaven, Sunday, December 22, 2024, at the age of 62.

The men wanted to be him, and the ladies couldn’t wait to dance with him as they lined up when he walked through the door. You could always catch Rick on the dance floor. 

Surviving Rick are his children, Chris McKinney of Tennessee, Donnie McKinney of Arizona, Alix Pettengill (Tyler) of Missouri, and Aaron McKinney of Arizona; his granddaughter Railynn Pettengill; his siblings Shirley Maez, Carl Leroy McKinney, and Amy Lopez of Cortez CO.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his brother James McKinney; his sisters Pearl McCauley, Uganda Woodworth, and Linda Wegner.
