Dominic R. Aspromonte

DOMINIC R. ASPROMONTE Funeral Mass for longtime Mancos resident Dominic R. Aspromonte will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 1 at St. Rita Catholic Church. A Rosary has been scheduled for Friday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. Dominic was born on April 22, 1934 in Durango, the son of Charles and Grace (DePetriandio) Aspromonte. He passed away on Monday, October 27 at his residence at the age of 74. Dominic attended Fort Lewis College in Durango and the University of Northern Colorado. Dominic then went on to obtain his Masters degree from Adams State College. On June 25, 1960 Dominic married Sheila Ann Gallavan at St. Columba Catholic Church in Durango. Dominic's working life was devoted to education. He was the Principal at Mancos High School from 1963 to 1974. He then became the Director of Student Affairs at San Juan Basin Technical College from 1974 to 1996. Dominic had a passion for working with wood. His talent allowed him to build a cabin at Spring Creek from an old building. He also enjoyed time spent in his garden. Surviving Dominic are his wife of 48 years, Sheila Aspromonte of Mancos; and his children, Tina Aspromonte Weiss and husband, Kip of Mystic, Conn., Tony Aspromonte and wife, Vicki of Mancos; and Gayla Aspromonte of Colorado Springs, Colo. Dominic also leaves behind his grandchildren, Courtney Weiss of Mystic, Conn., Ray Aspromonte and wife, Tiffany of Mancos, Brittany Aspromonte of Ft. Worth, Tex., and Natasha Aspromonte of Mancos; his great-grandson, Chauncey Aspromonte of Mancos; and his siblings, Dean Aspromonte and wife, Carolyn of Durango, Angie Aspromonte and husband, Leo of Santa Rosa, Calif., Johnny Aspromonte and wife, Gail of Aztec, N.M., and Clara Aspromonte-Piccoli and husband, Bob of Bayfield, Colo. Dominic was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Dominic's memory to the Mancos Volunteer Fire Department or to the Mancos Elementary Playground Equipment Fund.
