DOLORTIA TAPIA JONES Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Dolorita Tapia Jones will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 13 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Monsignor Dan Huber of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio will officiate. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A prayer vigil will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Dolorita was born April 7, 1910 at Dulce, N.M. to Luciano and Genevieve (Velasquez) Tapia. She passed away at the Valley Inn Nursing Home on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004. Dolorita was 94 years old. On Feb. 5, 1931 Dolorita married Simon R. Jones Sr. in Durango, Colo. Together they share 70 years of marriage. To this union two children were born, Eleanor and Simon Jr. Active women, Dolorita belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America, Women’s International Bowling Congress, VFW Auxiliary Post #3076, American Legion Post #75 Auxiliary, and the National Rifle Association. Surviving Dolorita are her daughter, Eleanor Bisson-Carter of Cortez; ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; two brothers, Jose A. Tapia and his wife, Margaret of Los Alamos, N.M., Avelino “Buddy” Tapia of Espanola, N.M.; and her sister, Carmel Chavez of San Juan Pueblo, N.M. Dolorita was preceded in death by her husband, Simon R. Jones Sr. in January 2002; her son, Simon R. Jones Jr.; her mother and fathers; five brothers, Lino Tapia, Percy Tapia, Perciliano Tapia, Abedon Tapia, and Jacobe Tapia; and a sister, Julia Tapia. The family requests that those who wish may make contributions to the Alzheimer’s; SW Colo. Region of Rocky Mountain Chapter; 701 Camino Del Rio, Durango, Colo. 81301 in memory of Dolorita Jones.
