DOLLY SEARCY Graveside services for longtime Cahone resident, Dolly Searcy will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 19 at the Cahone Cemetery. Interment will follow at the Cahone Cemetery. Dolly was born on August 24, 1923 in Hutchinson, Kans. the daughter of Daris and Thankful Viola (Burns) Turner. She passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Dolly was a “Rosy the Riveter” during World War II. She worked on the very first B-29. In the end she had worked on 1, 101 of these planes. She remained very patriotic throughout her life, always having a flag displayed. On December 30, 1944 in Wichita, Kans. Dolly married Arthur Marion Searcy. Together the Searcy’s lived in the Cahone area for 60 years. Dolly was the ultimate homemaker. She belonged to the Home Demonstration Club, and was a 4-H leader for many years. Dolly was an excellent seamstress, cook, gardener and artist. She also had a beautiful singing voice and loved to share her talent at church. Storytelling was another wonder Dolly was known for, as was her sense of humor. Babysitting was a specialty of Dolly’s. She had babysat numerous children through multiple generations. Surviving Dolly are her husband, Arthur Marion Searcy of Cahone; her children, Mary Ladner of Denver, Wayne Searcy of Cahone, Eileen Markheim of Ignacio, Nila Padilla of Denver, Edna McLain and husband, Russell of Spring Valley, Calif., George Searcy and wife, Rae of Denver, and Doris Leach and husband, Dave of Murrieta, Calif. She leaves her brother, Vern Turner; her sister-in-law, Bessie Smart and her son, Curtis both of Cahone; as well as an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her father, Daris Turner; her mother, Thankful Vila Eaton; her son, Charles; and her daughter, Virginia Lee. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Doris 'Dolly' Searcy with First National Bank of Cortez.
