DESSIE LEE CARTER Graveside services for lifelong Dove Creek resident Dessie Lee Carter will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12 at Dove Creek Cemetery. Pastor Rick Carpenter of the First United Methodist Church of Dove Creek will officiate. Visitation has been scheduled for Monday, November 11 at Ertel Memorial Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Dessie was born the daughter of Hiram Marion and Lilly Mae (Turner) Poff on May 7, 1918 in Canalion, Okla. She passed away at the Vista Grande Inn on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the age of 95. On September 5, 1936 in Cortez Dessie became the bride of Raymond Earl Carter. The couple shared 51 years of marriage before Raymond's death in 1987. A dedicated homemaker to her husband and children, Dessie was a member of the Home Extension Club in Dove Creek. She enjoyed crocheting especially making decorative hangers, and cooking for family and friends. Surviving Dessie are her two daughters, Faye Carhart and husband, David of Dove Creek and Beulah Brown and husband, Gerald of Craig, Colo.; five grandchildren, Jerry Carhart, Albert Carhart, Edward Carhart, Harold Brown and Kevin Brown; eleven great grandchildren, Holly, Jeff, Connor, Bailey, Karlie, Brandon, Casey, Chelsea, Kaleb, Krystal and Stephanie; and eight great great grandchildren, Kalyssa, Mikayla, Nolan, Marlee, Karson, Jayden, Kael, and Caseylyn. Two sisters and one brother, Mary Coyles of New York, N.Y., Juanita Coyles of Eureka, Calif. and Alvin Poff and wife, Charlene of McKinleyville, Calif.; as well as one sister-in-law, Loredda Poff of Redding, Calif. also survive Dessie. Preceding Dessie in death were her husband, Raymond; her parents, Hiram and Lilly Poff; and her siblings, Wayne Poff, Leo Poff, Lorenzo Poff, Lela Jones, Alma Dehn, and Cecil Poff. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Dessie Carter with the Dolores County Senior Service.
