DELBERT LEROY "JIM" REED Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Delbert Leroy "Jim" Reed will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Empire Street in Cortez. Delbert Leroy Reed was born June 7, 1923 in Beatrice, Neb. the son of Alexander Leroy and Viola Fay (Vandergrift) Reed. He passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at his Cortez home at the age of 93. On May 28, 1943 Jim married Betty Jane Rhoten in Marysville, Kan. In his younger years, Jim was a good cowboy. He was a hardworking man that enjoyed working. Jim was a sharpshooter and he enjoyed golfing later in life. Jim was also a devoted bible teacher. Surviving Jim are his wife, Betty Reed of Cortez; his daughters, Jane Hine (Arden) of Cortez and Carynn Holden of Shiprock, N.M.; his grandchildren, Aaron Jones, Melodie Horton (Les), Terry Jones, Janelle Adams (Aaron), and Kelly Jones (Jennifer), by his step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Hine (Robyn) and Jonathan Hine (Stephany); and by 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; by his grandsons, Eric McDonald and Jerold Hine; by 10 brothers and sisters; and by four half brothers and sisters.
