DEENE HINTON Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Deene Hinton will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 2 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Empire Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Deene was born on December 1, 1947 in San Bernardino, Calif. and she passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington at the age of 61. On December 6, 1974, Deene married Steve Hinton in Cortez. Deene was a longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She also devoted 21 years of her life working at I.F.A. Deene lived for her grandchildren and she was never found without a book. Deene had a deep love for the mountains and raising cattle. Surviving Deene are her loving husband of 34 years, Steve W. Hinton and grandson, Wrangler both of the family home in Cortez; her children, Stephanie Braun and husband, Matt of Phoenix, Ariz., Shayla Oliver and husband, Brandon of Yellow Jacket, Craig Hinton of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Chad Hinton and wife, DeeAnn of Wichita, Kan.; 10 additional grandchildren, Kalley, Lindsey, Tyler, Kirby, Clark, Ebony, Bo, Riley, Ty, and Jake; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Annie Hinton of Cortez. Deene was preceded in death by her parents, Keith “Rowdy” Ferrick and Dixie Lee Ferrick. Memorial contributions may be made in Deene's name to the Montezuma-Cortez High School Booster Club.
