Debby Lynn Hammell

Debby Lynn Davis Hammell, born June 11, 1960 in Denver, Colorado, passed away February 7, 2018 in Cortez, Colorado. Daughter of Orvil and Juanita (McKenzie) Davis. She graduated from Plateau Valley High School May 1978 in Collbran, Colorado. Married Russell Hammell October 2, 1982 in Mesa, Colorado. They had two children, Heather and Donald, twins born March 23, 1984. She grew up on working ranches with her parents on the western slope of Colorado. She loved this way of life and never wanted to live in the city. Horses were her main passion in life but never met any animal that she didn't like and never turned one in need away. She bought a race horse and was having it trained, but after the birth of her children she had to give that up. She always followed the racing events and Secretariat was always her favorite. She loved to ride. She loved to garden and loved all the flowers and trees that she planted, and was always proud of her little ranchette. She worked for the Flower Cottage for several years, and ran her own flower shop in Dolores for a couple of years. For several years she worked as a real estate agent in Cortez. She has had the unique opportunity of working for Kurt Mangan's Strings coiling guitar strings. She was also employed by Holiday Inn doing breakfasts for hungry travelers. Debby was mischievous by nature and always tried to make others laugh. She was a good Mother and daughter. She was special and we will miss her terribly. Debby was preceded in death by her Father, Orvil K. Davis. She is survived by her Mother, Juanita M. Davis. Two children Heather (Jason) Romero and Donald (Jackie)Hammell. Two adorable grandchildren, Keith and Levi Hammell. One brother, Michael (Linda) Davis, two sisters, Lynda (Charles) Chenoweth, and Richelle (David) Buckles. As well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews Services are scheduled for Saturday February 17, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Ertel Funeral Chapel.
