DEAN D. PHILLIPS Funeral services for Dean D. Phillips, 70 of Cortez will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Elder Darrell Veach will officiate. Interment will follow at the Summit Ridge Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Dean was born June 1, 1934 in Carson, Iowa, the son of Clifton and Lorna (Nelson) Phillips. He passed away Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home. Dean graduated from Carson High School in 1952; working in the Carson area for a while and then moving to Wyoming. In 1981, Dean moved to the Colorado/New Mexico area where he remained until his death. His greatest joy in life was family and friends. He never met a stranger and could be counted on as a loyal man. He had a fondness for old trucks and tractors. Surviving Dean are his children, Danny Phillips and wife, Tammy of Aztec, N.M., Mike Phillips and his partner, Charlie of Austin, Texas, Keleah Phillips and Katie Phillips both of Lewis, Colo.; and his two grandchildren, Cody and Carissa Phillips of Green River, Wyo. Four brothers, Eldon Phillips and wife, Shirley of Omaha, Neb., Merle Phillips and wife, Beverly of Atlantic, Iowa, Lowell Phillips and wife, Shirley of Carson, Iowa, and Darrell Phillips of Elkhorn, Neb.; and two sisters, Alice Phillips of Mason City, Iowa, and Ilene Phillips of Carson, Iowa. Preceding Dean in death were an infant daughter, Marcie Phillips; his parents; and one sister, Lila. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Dean Phillips with the Dolores State Bank.
