DAVID CONELY ALLEN David Conely Allen, 82, of Rico peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, June 8, 2014. He was born in San Pedro, Calif., on March 10, 1932 to Arthur Potter and Margaret (Mansfield) Allen. As a teenage licensed pilot and Ham radio operator, he enlisted in the US Navy, flying reconnaissance missions during the Korean conflict. After graduating U.C. Berkley on the G.I Bill, Dave dove into a 30-year career with Boeing's Aerospace division. Upon moving to Rico, Dave joined the Dolores County Planning Commission with equal passion, ultimately becoming its Chairman. Dave loved Colorado outdoor life, skiing in the winter, and golfing and mountain flying in the summer. He was an avid reader and politically supportive to causes near and dear to his heart. Surviving Dave are his wife of 56 years, Catherine Allen of Rico; children, Matthew Allen of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Aliza Allen and husband, Matthew Langa of Seattle, Wash. and Duncan Allen and wife, Anna Bauer Allen of Federal Way, Wash.; four grandchildren, Alaina Allen, Gracie Langa, and twins, Analicia and Cameron Allen; and by two sisters, Barbara Monsor of Chicago, Ill., and Margery Keppel of Santa Cruz, Calif. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Margaret Allen; and his siblings, Arthur Allen and Celia Allen. Cremation has taken place with no services to be held. Remembrances may be made to the Rico Fire District.
