DANIEL JOSEPH LYONS Memorial Mass for longtime Cortez resident Daniel Joseph Lyons will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 30 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Dan was born on January 8, 1932 in Tulsa, Okla. the son of Paul L. and Pauline (Rheese) Lyons. He passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Vista Grande Inn in Cortez at the age of 76. On June 7, 1952, Dan married Eleanor Unfug in Boulder, Colo. He was a proud member of the Colorado Veterinarian Medical Association and the Elks Lodge. Surviving Daniel are his wife, Eleanor Lyons of Cortez; and his children, Susan Lyons of Birmingham, Ala., Richard Lyons of Greeley, Colo., Michael W. Lyons of Cortez, Elizabeth Gifford and husband, John of Greeley, John Lyons and wife, Erica of Sterling, Colo., Samuel Lyons of Cortez, William Lyons of Cortez, and Amy Klyse and husband, Bryan of Bailey, Colo. He also leaves behind his 14 grandchildren, Aric Yoder of Cortez, Adam Yoder of Phoenix, Ariz., Jennifer Kramer of Greeley, Michael Paul Lyons of Cortez, Hannah and Sirah Masters both of Greeley, Reina and Iris Gifford both of Greeley, Alexander and Caroline Lyons of Sterling, Colo., Ivan and Isabela Klyse of Bailey, Colo., Daniel Joseph Lyons III of Cortez, and David Lyons of Sterling, Colo.; his three great-grandchildren, Dawson Kramer, Kian Kramer, and Abigail Yoder; and his brother, William Sheehan and wife, Catherine of Tulsa, Okla. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Daniel Lyons. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Daniel Lyons to any Elk's charity fund, local animal shelter or the American Lung Association.
