CYNTHIA JOAN RANSOM Memorial services for Cortez resident Cynthia Joan Ransom will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 15 at St. Philip Anglican Church. Joan was born in Sheffield, England April 8, 1922. She was raised by her parents, John and Eveline, who owned Pubs. They usually lived above the pub. She had one brother, Geoffrey and one sister Sybil. During the war she served in Blackpool, England as a signal operator with the Royal Air Force. There she met Robert Ransom who was from Texas. They were married in 1945. She became a citizen in 1950. She lived in Texas when first married and then moved to California for Robert's work. Everywhere they went they made life-long friends. Joan is survived by two children, Christopher, who lives in Virginia with his wife, Robin and Margaret who lives in Cortez with Calvin Hance. She has a grandson, Kevin who lives in Texas. Joan was very big-hearted and loving. She was a businesswoman after the children were in school owning a gift shop in Springfield, Va. She served many years as a volunteer in hospitals in Virginia and also in California where they retired to in 1984. In Tri-City hospital in Carlsbad, she knitted caps for the pre-mature babies and was a baby cuddler in the neo-natal intensive care unit. She was an animal lover and always had cats and dogs in her life. She even turned her husband into a cat lover as well as a dog lover. In 2008 Joan moved to Cortez to live with her daughter and husband Calvin Hance. She enjoyed going to the Community Band with her daughter and was given a tambourine to play and met many wonderful friends. She played in concerts and parades with the band. Margaret and Joan joined St. Philip Anglican Church and made many friends there. Margaret would like to give thanks to all who supported her during the time her Mom was here in Cortez, especially: Vic and Gail Vanik of Four Seasons Greenhouse and Nursery who made it possible for Joan to come to work with her when she was unable to stay alone and Lisa Pierce of Sears in Cortez who was also supportive of letting Joan come to work there as well. A huge thanks to the people in the Four Corners Community Band who took Mom in and made her one of their own. And a big thanks to all the caregivers who helped especially C.J. and Sylvia of Pasco Home health. All the great people at Vista Grande, there are too many to name them all. The entire staff was caring and supportive and helpful. Your care and concern was much appreciated. Also many thanks to all the folks at Ertel's for making this an easier process to go through.
