CUBAZELL CASSADAY

Memorial services for Cubazell Cassaday will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Cubazell Cassaday was born on her family’s farm in Pleasant View, CO to her parents Leon Edward and Flossie Edna Cassaday. She had a half sister named Mamie Lee Routt. She leaves behind her oldest son Jeff Wilmarth and his wife Vicki, her youngest son Daniel Wilmarth and his wife Pam, her granddaughter Myah, as well as her bonus grandchildren Nate, Savana and Madison Wemple.

Over the span of her 78 years, Cuba lived an active life. She loved adventure and traveled to Europe and Jerusalem, sailed on various cruises, and loved visiting America’s great National Parks. She was an X-ray technician by trade, and also spent several years volunteering with the Rails and Trails Program, eventually being employed by them.

Her first marriage to Jim Wilmarth provided her life’s greatest blessings in Jeff and Dan. She and Jim raised their sons in White Rock, New Mexico. She was an active Cub Scout and Boy Scout volunteer with both sons each achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. She had a second marriage that lasted 24 years. During this time she lived in Washington state and Colorado, but ultimately ended up back in New Mexico where she could be near her sons and family. Her hobbies included, but were not limited to: Bicycling, quilting, sewing and gardening. She loved horses and anything to do with farms, often reminiscing of her youthful days growing up on the farm in Pleasant View.

Cuba was a Christian and loved the Lord. She attended the Church of Christ. She never met a stranger, according to one son. She could talk a fencepost to tears, according to the other.

If Cuba loved you, or maybe even just really liked you, she’d gift you with a beautiful quilt that she made with love and care. Just like her quilts, her life was a colorful pattern stitched together with care, love and sweet memories. Rest in peace, Cubazell. You are loved and you will be missed.
