Cretia Idonna Burris

CRETIA IDONNA BURRIS Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident Cretia Idonna Burris will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Cretia was born the daughter of Frank and Grace (Bell) Morelock on September 2, 1937 in Cortez. She passed away at her home on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the age of 74. Johnney Burris married Cretia on October 12, 1955 in Lovington, N.M., sharing 56 years of marriage. Cretia waitressed in several of the local restaurants from 1972 to 1978. She helped manage Johnney's service station on Highway 160. A collector at heart, Cretia most enjoyed her glassware collection. She also loved fishing and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion. Surviving Cretia are her beloved husband, Johnney Burris of Cortez; two sons, Frank Burris and wife, Myra of Cortez and Johnney W. Burris and wife, Tiffany of Green River, Utah; her daughter, Donna Marie Weems and husband, Rick of Texas; 15 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; and her very special friend, Jody Dobbs of Cortez. Also surviving Cretia are her siblings, Jack Morelock and wife, Jerry and Lola Deese both of Oklahoma, Jerry Ann Ward, Charlotte Holloway and Vera Lynn Rolston all of Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cretia was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Grace Morelock; and a brother, Ronnie Morelock.
