CORRINIA GURULE Funeral services for Cortez resident and former Durango resident Corrinia Gurule will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 28 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with Pastor Anthony Maes officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation has been set for Wednesday afternoon from 12 Noon to 4 p.m. at the Ertel Chapel. Corrinia was born July 30, 1967 in Cortez the daughter of Achillis Eugene Root and Rose Marie Bancroft Root. She passed away in Towaoc on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the age of 41. A graduate from Mancos High School, Corrinia discovered her passion to be hairstyling. She worked both in New Mexico and Colorado in that profession. She was known to be very outgoing and people orientated and loved communicating with them. She recently married Joseph Gurule in Durango on May 19 of this year. Surviving Corrinia are her husband, Joseph Gurule of Durango; her mother, Sophie Stevenson of Cortez; siblings, Mariea Rivera and Flora Collins and husband Lionel all of Towaoc, Phyllis Menendes of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rebecca Baca of Ignacio, Colo., Theron Root of Fort Duchesne, Utah, and Sandra Valencia of Cortez; aunts and uncles, Pearl Laner, Freddie Bancroft, Rutherford Mills Sr., Richard McKewan and Phillip Laner Sr. all of Towaoc; nieces and nephews, Holly Boughey and Courtney Boughey of Cortez, Kayla Matthews and Harley Matthews both of Towaoc, Crystal Medrano and husband, Juan and their son, Alex of Farmington, N.M., LeAnne Redbird, Latoya Redbird, Camille Root, and Tashina Gonzales all of Colorado Springs, Colo., Anthony Root of Fort Duchesne, Utah, Rosie Rivera, Ricardo Rivera, and David Baca all of Ignacio, Desiree Henderson and Warren Henderson both of Cortez; and a large extended family and many friends.
