Cleo Irene West Gore

CLEO IRENE WEST GORE Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident, Cleo Irene West Gore will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 22 at the First Baptist Church in Dove Creek. Interment will follow at Dove Creek Cemetery. Cleo was born February 26, 1925 in the Battle Rock area of McElmo, Montezuma County, Colo. to J. LeRoy "Roy" and Bessie Lee Wilemon West. She passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009. Cleo attended early grades in the small country schools in Disappointment Valley and attended high school in both Cortez and Dove Creek. Cleo married Calvin D. Gore September 27, 1941 in Dove Creek, Colo. To this union were born three children. The Gores raised their kids in Dove Creek where they made their home until the early 1970s at which time they moved to the Yampa Valley in northern Colorado, living in Steamboat Springs, Hayden, and then Craig where they lived at the time of Cal's death in 1995. Subsequently Cleo returned to Dove Creek. She was a resident of the Valley Inn, an assisted living facility in Mancos, at the time of her death. The woman described in Proverbs, chapter 31, applies to her, particularly verses 13-15. She, indeed, worked willingly with her hands to supply food for her family. She would butcher and dress chickens by the hundreds for a third of the finished product. She would hand pick vegetables and fruit of all kinds, by the bushel for farmers for a portion to can for her family. She was generous to share what she had with others in need, too. Besides her husband, Cal, Cleo was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and one brother; a son-in-law; two grandsons; and one great grandson. She is survived by her three children, LeRoy Gore and wife, Joan, and Lynn Smith all of Dove Creek, and Derwin Gore and wife, Shannon of Hayden, Colo.; one brother, Jesse V. West of Cortez; seven grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.
