Navy Veteran Clarence Lafayette Calhoun made his journey home to be with the Lord on Wednesday,
September 14, 2022. Clarence passed peacefully in his home at the age of 94.
Clarence was born to John C, and Viola (Maddox) Calhoun on July 5, 1928, in Phoenix, Az.
Surviving Clarence are his Children, Lori Winemiller of Arizona; Clancy Calhoun (Charlotte) of Aztec, NM.
Sarah Miller of Cortez, Co; Jennifer Nichols of Arizona, Susie Noack (Tim) of Durango, Co; by his
siblings, Lorraine Harrman (Gene) of Phoenix, Az and Sue of San Diego, Ca; 15 grandkids and 28 greats.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Lavern Calhoun; his parents, John, and Viola Calhoun; his
daughter, Jackie Nelson; and six siblings.
Clarence enlisted in the Navy on September 13, 1945. When he returned from the Navy, he helped his father with the family trucking company Calhoun Bros. of Phoenix Az. Clarence moved to Cortez, Co in 1961. Where he lived out the rest of his life as a Farmer raising his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He Married his wife Lavern Calhoun on September 28,1983. Clarence was a sucker for a good deal on any piece of equipment he could buy from farm auctions to put along the fence line of his property to keep his cattle in. He enjoyed fishing with anyone who would fish with him, as well as hunting, hiking, and camping. Clarence was well known in the area for his hay crop. He found joy in spending time in his shop making things, fixing things, and restoring tractors. Clarence has always been known as a great man. He was a friend to many, was funny and a true joy to be around. He was a man of honor and respect. He will forever be remembered as a hardworking man with a kind loving heart.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Arriola Cemetery. Military honors will be observed
