CLARENCE CALVIN MCLAUGHLIN Memorial services for Cortez resident Clarence Calvin McLaughlin will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 16 at the Cortez Assembly of God Church. Pastor Don L. Henderson will officiate. Clarence was born on October 11, 1924 in Hamil, S.D., the son of Perry and Clarice (Shaul) McLaughlin. He passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 82. Clarence graduated from Telluride High School. On October 11, 1953, he married Shirley Woodside in Butte, Mont. The couple shared 53 years of marriage. Clarence was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion. Clarence’s children and grandchildren were a main focus in his life. In his spare time he enjoyed reading and chess. Surviving Clarence are his loving wife, Shirley McLaughlin of Cortez; and his children, Bruce McLaughlin of Chattanooga, Tenn., Colleen Bush and husband, Bob of Keizer, Ore., Gloria Holt and husband, Fred of Junction City, Ore., Renee Phillips and husband, Dave of Great Falls, Mont., and Brian McLaughlin and wife, Jackie of Columbus, Kan. He also leaves behind his siblings, Jack McLaughlin and wife, Donna of Grand Junction, Colo., Maxine Davis of West Lake, Florida, Eyla Welborn of Clifton, Colo., Hazel Scott of Libby Mont., and Betty Trevena of Salem, Ore.; and 17 grandchildren. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Clarence’s memory to the American Cancer Association to aid cancer research.
