CHRISTINE MARIE DURAN "CHRISTY" SACKETT Memorial services for lifelong Cortez resident Christine Marie Duran "Christy" Sackett will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 14 at Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. Christy was born on October 31, 1958 in Salina, Kan. the daughter of Edwin O. and Marlene Marie (Homman) Duran. She left to start her wonderful new life with the Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2009 after a vicious battle with cancer. A truly loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all, Christy loved the outdoors, her church; work at Cortez newspaper for 29 years, but mostly her family life. Playing tricks on her brothers and sister, playing video games with her grandson, Seth, or chasing her granddaughter, Lyric at the park, going to sporting and other activity events to support her brothers and sister, nieces and nephews and friends, and charity was her way of life. Making sure her daughter, Megan was well cared for was Christy's life goal it seemed. Unselfish to the end this kind woman gave her all including giving a kidney to her brother in September 1980. Christy's philosophy was to enjoy life each day and not let the comments of those critical of her trouble her but encourage her to persevere in her Christian views and goals, setting an example to those she truly called the cherished title of friend. Christy will be truly missed in all walks of life but has now gone to claim the reward she has so unselfishly toiled and fought for. Her legacy will live on through her daughter, grandchildren, and family. Christy is survived in this life by her daughter, Megan; grandchildren, Seth and Lyric; her parents, Eddie and Marlene; her sister, Shelli; her brothers, Tim, Mark and Dante; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends; and her Siberian husky, Kiki. Christy was preceded in passing by her sister, Jody Lynn; by her grandparents, uncles, aunts, and dear close friends. Christy will be truly missed but would want this message left to all, "Enjoy life, family and those you call friends. Never settle and to remember, this is not our world we are but visitors traveling through on our way to our true home. May God bless you all always see you soon," Christy.
