Christa Elsbeth (Riemann) Burpee
5/24/1933 – 4/22/2022
Christa Elsbeth (Riemann) Burpee was born on May 24, 1933 in Magdeburg, East Germany. She had one older brother, Klaus, and a younger sister, Renate, both predeceased her.
Christa successfully escaped from East Germany to Berlin, where she worked as a waitress, met and married a U.S. soldier, and then moved to the United States (Texas) in 1954. Christa ended the relationship in 1957, moved to Las Vegas where she worked at the Golden Nugget for 27 years.
Christa eventually met and married the love of her life, “the dude,” Robert C. Burpee, on January 17, 1977. They enjoyed each other’s company, their pets, exploring, and traveling. After retirement they settled in Lake Havasu until making their final move to Colorado in 1996 to build their little log cabin. Bob and Christa were married for almost 31 years before Bob’s passing in 2007.
Christa loved life… and flowers, kitties, poodles, yorkies, flowering plants, cheese dates, cooking, the Farmer’s Market, reading, and visiting with people. She never knew a stranger; they were just friends she hadn’t met yet. Christa was a hilarious strong-willed treasure all rolled into a feisty bundle of generous love!
We love you Christa and hope you are enjoying your new found freedom as you walk through the beautiful flower gardens pain free.
