CHESTER LAWRENCE TOZER Funeral services for lifelong McElmo Canyon resident, Chester Lawrence Tozer will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 24 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Battlerock Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Chester was born January 5, 1932 in McElmo Canyon the son of Clyde Ishmael and Liddie Ann (Meadows) Tozer. He passed away at his home, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the age of 83. Serving his country in the Marines, Chester saw combat during the Korean Conflict. On August 8, 1955 in Aztec, N.M. Chester married Joan Marie Rollmann. He was an active part of the Montezuma County community, belonging to the American Legion, V.F.W., Cattleman's Association; and sat as President for the Landowners Association. Chester worked hard as a Cattleman and Rancher. He enjoyed life riding his horses, working with his cattle and tinkering in his shop. Surviving Chester are his wife, Joan Tozer; his children, Bruce Tozer and wife, Lisa all of McElmo Canyon, Justin Tozer of Los Alamos, N.M., Tamara Sturman and husband, Brad of McElmo Canyon; grandchildren Mitchell Hoffman, Alesha Tozer-Hindmarsh, Trent Willis, Sandy Tozer, Katie Hoffman, Tyrell Sturman; great grandchildren, Lexy Hoffman, Stetson Hoffman, Paisley Hoffman, Connor Hoffman, and Sage Tozer. Preceding him in death are his parents, Clyde and Liddie Tozer; two grandchildren, Noel Willis and Haystin Willis; and his siblings, Pearly Tozer, Allie Mae Bertrand, Eugene Tozer and Roy Tozer.
