CHARLES LEON "CHUCK" MAHAFFEY Charles Leon Mahaffey was born on August 16, 1932 in Cortez, Colorado and passed away on June 11, 2017. Charles "Chuck" graduate high school in Mesa, Arizona and shortly after joined the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then returned home to the family farm located in Yellow Jacket, Colorado. Chuck married the love of his life Daisy Johns on November 23, 1956 in Aztec, New Mexico. In 1962, he moved his wife and three children to a farm near Lewis, Colorado. Here, Chuck made a living as a farmer and rancher for the next forty years. His favorite hobbies were pack trips, hunting, and helping his aunt Helen Suckla brand and move cattle. Chuck knew that his children had a love and desire for the rodeo. Knowing this, in order to teach his kids life lessons they built an arena that the entire community could use. Another major milestone in his life was when he became a real estate broker. In 1991, he built his dream home that he designed at Goodman Point and lived there until his health forced him to move to Cortez, Colorado. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bertha Mahaffey. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Mahaffey; three children, Jerry Mahaffey and his wife, Neeta from Pleasant View, Colorado, Larry Mahaffey and his wife, Jodi from Dolores, Colorado, and Sherri Franchini and her husband, Mike from Cortez, Colorado; his brothers, Gary and Joe Mahaffey and their families; his grandchildren, Gina Sturdevant, Madison Mahaffey, Lucas Mahaffey, Whitney Cox, Jacob Harris, Cody Harris, Cody Jameson, Frankie Robbins, and Lancer Green; his great-grandchildren, Hunter Sturdevant, Tripp Sturdevant, Alana Cox, Jensen Cox, Andi Harris, Candace Cahall, Kyle Cahall, Jubal Robbins, Lana Robbins, Kamber Nelson, and Madeline Green. Chuck's services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Lewis, Colorado at 10:00 A.M. After the service, a celebration of Chuck's life will be held at the American Legion in Cortez. In lieu of sending flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Guardian Angels organization located at 925 S. Broadway, Suite 286, Cortez, Colorado 81321.
